Greater Manchester | Clean Air Zone

The Manchester Clean Air Zone is Coming. Find Out How eStar Can Support Your Journey To A More Sustainable Future...

From May 2022, Transport For Greater Manchester will be introducing a "Clean Air Zone", which means that businesses who operate non-compliant HGVs and enter the Greater Manchester Clean Air Zone, could potentially face a daily charge if they don't comply with the upcoming vehicle regulations.

Here at eStar, we've made it our mission to work in partnership with you and your business, to help keep you moving sustainably. So that we're best placed to support you on your journey to a greener, more cost-effective future, we've been working closely with Transport For Greater Manchester and have now been confirmed as an accredited dealership.

Why Is The Clean Air Zone Coming In?

Following an instruction from the Government, Greater Manchester will be introducing the Clean Air Zone to clean up the air all we breathe. Air pollution damages our health and plays a part in thousands of deaths every year. Private cars and motorbikes will not be affected, but types of commercial and passengers could potentially pay a daily charge to travel in the zone.

What Are The Restrictions?

The "Clean Air Zone" will be put into effect from May 2022 and could potentially mean that your business faces a daily charge when entering the Greater Manchester Zone. Non-compliant HGVs could face a daily charge from May 2022, and non-compliant LCV's could face a daily charge from May 2023.

How Do I Know If My Vehicle Will Face A Charge?

If your vehicle doesn't comply with Euro 6 diesel, or Euro 5 petrol - based on the type of business you operate, you could potentially face a daily charge when entering the Greater Manchester Clean Air Zone. There will be one charge, per 24-hour period and the amount is based on the type of vehicle you operate.

What Are The Daily Charges For Non-Compliant Vehicles?

  • Buses and heavy goods vehicles (HGV) - £60 per day
  • Taxis and private hire vehicles - £7.50
  • Light goods vehicles (LGV) such as vans and minibuses - £10

What Grants Are Available?

If you're an SME and operate between 1 and 5 non-compliant HGVs, you may be eligible for a grant. You will be able to apply for this grant from Tuesday 30th November through the Transport For Greater Manchester website. You will need to have key information about your business and your non-compliant vehicle readily available, as this is part of the application process.
