Where can HGV drivers get Covid-19 tests?
Many of the Department for Transport’s haulier advice sites, which were set up to help prepare for border readiness during the Brexit transition period, now offer free Covid-19 tests for drivers and crew of HGVs, LGVs, coaches and vans.
Details of the haulier advice sites, located at truck stops and service stations, have been updated on the Government’s website to identify which operate a 24-hour testing service.
Currently, drivers need a negative test result before travelling to:
- France
- Denmark
- the Netherlands
Drivers are advised that the rules can changes without notice and that they should keep up to date with which countries require tests.
To avoid delays, drivers are advised to get tested at an advice site before entering Kent or travelling to other Channel crossing points.
Professional coach drivers who are driving abroad for work can also take a free COVID-19 test at haulier advice sites.
Drivers and crew using Dover and Eurotunnel will get fast-tracked past queues if they get tested and have a valid Kent Access Permit before arriving in Kent.
How to find your nearest haulier advice site
Haulier advice sites are at motorway service stations and truck stops. Most haulier advice sites are open between 6am and 9.30pm, 7 days a week.
